Losi Micro HIGHroller
Losi introduced their 1/36 line of RC Micro vehicles in 2006. This week (September 2009), they announced the release of their Micro HIGHroller. Like the other cars in their micro line, this one comes ready to run and offers rugged engineering along with thoughtful styling. However, is it a redesign of their Micro-T and Micro-DT lines, or just the same car with a new chassis?
Let's start with some of the features of the Micro HIGHroller. In terms of functionality, the most noticeable change in the HIGHroller is its new ride height. Taller tires, combined with a lifted suspension and a motor that is mounted high, help the HIGHroller cover terrain that was previously not possible with other vehicles in Losi's micro line.
In terms of appearance, Losi created a realistic truck body that covers a tube-style chassis. Shocks are mounted vertically, which adds to the truck look and allows for more suspension travel. The truck is also outfitted with 50-series chrome wheels with low-profile, all-terrain tires.
A couple of changes were made to the battery and charging system as well. The HIGHroller features a new 4.8v 220mah NiMH battery, and now includes a wall charger instead of a AA-battery based one. The vehicle battery compartment is now tool-less, making battery changes easier and faster.
If you have a Micro-T or Micro-DT and are considering changing some of the components in order to have a HIGHroller, you are in luck as they share quite a few parts. The motor, pinion and spur gears, gearbox, and axles all remain the same. They use the same suspension arms, shocks, springs, steering servo, and steering linkages. Following is a summary of parts that have changed:
